Can A Woman Be Pregnant During Her Period?

The debate on whether or not a woman can get pregnant during her period has been going on for decades now. Just like every woman is different, so are her hormonal balances and hence her menstrual cycle. Though there are generalities on which some ground basics of menstruation and pregnancy can be formed, but eventually it all boils down to individual physiology. So, yes, you can get pregnant during your periods.

There is a definite chance that any woman can get pregnant during her periods. Though the chances of pregnancy during periods are usually low during periods, they exist for all women. During periods, the chances of pregnancy are comparatively lower at the onset of a woman’s period and increase just after her periods. The truth is that there is no predictable time during the month when the risk of pregnancy can be said to be absent. Lets understand how and when this can happen.

Ovulation and the Menstrual Cycle

During each menstrual cycle, a woman’s ovaries release an egg, or ovum. This process is called ovulation. Generally, this takes place on an average of about 14 days before the start of a woman’s monthly period. Even for women with regular periods, this timing or duration can vary from month to month. Sometimes, there may not be any ovulation at all but the woman may still have her bleeding. After ovulation the egg moves toward the uterus through the fallopian tubes. If there is a sperm available, with all the right conditions, here is where the process of fertilization may take place. An unfertilized egg may live for about 24 hours and if does not get fertilized during this duration, it will be shed during the next menstrual period, along with the uterine lining.

Due to the increasing stress levels, it is very common for women who are ovulating to experience some vaginal bleeding that can be unfortunately mistaken for a period. Other factors that may contribute to this are malnutrition or trauma to the cervix. In some women, ovulation can actually occur before the menstrual bleeding has stopped. In others it may occur within a few days after her period has finished. In both of these cases, having sex before the period or just after it has finished, can result in pregnancy.

Besides misleading vaginal bleeding, the ability of sperm to survive inside a woman’s body is also another reason why it is possible for a woman to get pregnant during her periods. Sperm can survive for an average of two or three days, inside a woman’s body under normal conditions. If they receive ideal circumstances, however, they may remain viable for up to five days. So if sperm are deposited early, such as during a woman’s period, they can hang around a few days, waiting until conditions are right for conception. A woman is most likely to become pregnant if sexual intercourse occurs just before or just after ovulation.

4 Things Every Woman Should Know About Getting Pregnant After 30

I’ve worked with many doctors to gather accurate information to help women over thirty plan their families and avoid the fears and complications that often accompany attempts to either have children now, or determine when the best time is. Let me share with you these tips for women over thirty:

First, a woman over thirty does not necessarily have ovulation every month. Let me remind you what ovulation is.   Ovulation is release of egg from ovary. The ovulation cycle may last from 5 to 8 days, while ovicells are being formed.

The problem is that the estrogen level in a woman’s body, at this period of her life, is not enough to produce a full ovulation process. Nature offers many similar situations. For instance, an apple tree can break into blossom, but does not necessarily produce apples.
Second, many women erroneously presume that as long as they have regular menstrual cycles, there is going to be no problem conceiving a child. Actually, regular monthly menstrual cycles do not necessarily mean a woman has regular ovulation cycles. Ovulation cycles vary with age – as a result of disease, or because of a wide variety of other reasons. Ovulation cycles, normally stable for any woman, may vary for two or three months after an abortion, or for a year after giving birth to a child. After a woman becomes forty, her body starts getting ready for her pre-menopausal period. So, ovulation may take place at any moment of a menstrual cycle or several times during a cycle. Some women get pregnant even while having a period.
Third, If you do not have an ovulation cycle for more than ten months, and if your pre-menopausal time is far away, you should see a doctor, as the absence may be caused by hormonal disorders in your body, and medical advice is indispensable. If the reason for hormonal imbalance is discovered in time and gotten rid of, ovulation can be restored.
Fourth, You should know that if you take the Pill for a long time, your ability to get pregnant may seriously decrease after you are thirty. In this situation, if you wish to have a baby, it may take your body some time to restore its hormonal balance. Don’t get excited or be nervous about it…because restoration of the ovulation cycle may take from 2 to 10 months. Human bodies differ! Nobody can tell you how much time your own body will need in order to restore its ovulation cycle. Just relax, wait and see. Watch your diet, do physical exercises, assure reasonable rest and get ready for a healthy pregnancy.

How To Lose Pregnancy Weight Fast

If you have recently had a baby, or ever had a baby for that matter, you know that pregnancy puts your body through many changes. One of those changes is, unfortunately, weight gain. While some women easily shed pounds by chasing around their toddlers and trying to care for a newborn, others find it hardly that simple and need a little more help. It IS possible to lose pregnancy weight fast in a healthy way. Guess what else, it’s even possible to keep it off for good! Whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding, it’s especially important that you maintain a healthy postpartum lifestyle. Eating right and getting a sufficient amount of rest and excercise is essential in getting your body to bounce back into shape.

For this very reason, you need to be weary of any kind of crash diets, or anything that is going to eliminate imporant food groups from your diet. In fact, any diet that eliminates food groups from your diet is something you want to steer clear of. If it is something you cannot follow for the rest of your life, it’s probably not a good idea.

To get into the habit of eating right, and eating enough if you are breastfeeding, you need to learn what foods to look for and how to prepare them in a healthy way. Anyone can go buy fresh corn at the grocery store, but once you slather it in a heap of butter and salt, it isn’t quite as healthy as it was to begin with. Learning how to prepare your food so that it is healthy AND delicious is extremely important. Remember, food is fuel. Now, that is not to say that you cannot enjoy a brownie every now and again!

Aside from eating right, getting exercise after you have had a baby is also important in being able to lose pregnancy weight fast. You don’t even have to go to the gym to get excercise. In fact, I recommend putting the new baby in a stroller and going for a power walk around the neighborhood. Afterwards, you can choose a couple extra exercises to do depending on what day it is. For example, on Monday you could focus on abs, Wednesday would be legs, and Friday you would work out your upper body. This way you aren’t cramming it all into one day and exhausting yourself but still getting in strength training as well as cardio.

Last but not least, surround yourself with other people trying to lose weight. It would be really difficult to lose pregnancy weight fast if you are doing it alone right? Having the right resources and support around you is going to make or break your weight loss success. Wether you join a local weight loss group or follow an online pregnancy weight loss forum, make sure that you are around others to share your success and keep each other motivated!

Don’t be a fence sitter. Get up, get moving, and make the changes you want to see! With the right attitude and the right resources, you CAN and WILL lose pregnancy weight fast! This IS your year!

Can I Get Pregnant Without Having Sex?

“I have had a boyfriend for over two years. He wants to have sex without a condom and says he will pull out before he ejaculates. The other day my boyfriend and I were fooling around a lot but we did not go all the way. He ejaculated near my vagina but that was it. Is it possible to get pregnant without having sex?”

Well the first thing any doctor will say is ANYTHING is possible. Basically if any semen was near your vagina, it is possible for you to get pregnant. It only takes a very small amount of semen to enter your vagina, and make it to your uterus, for you to get pregnant.

If you are having sex or even almost having sex, you can get pregnant. Any time there is ejaculation and semen around; it is possible that you could get pregnant. Using protection even during foreplay can help reduce your risk of becoming pregnant.

Many women believe that if they are not having intercourse with vaginal penetration, then they do not need to take precautions. This is just not true.

You are susceptible to pregnancy as well as sexually transmitted diseases if you are being this intimate with your partner.

There are many women who say they did not have full intercourse and now they are pregnant; as well as women who contract sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, Chlamydia, vaginal warts, HIV and AIDS. If you are going to be sexually intimate with your partner in any way, you are exposing yourself to these possibilities.

For years, it has been argued about whether the penis actually has to be in the vagina during ejaculation in order for the woman to get pregnant. It is not the case that the penis has actually been in the vagina. This goes for the often-tried birth control method of “pulling out” as well. Men release a pre- ejaculation fluid that contains sperm. This pre-ejaculation does not offer the man the same sensations as regular ejaculation, so the man does not pull his penis out during the pre-ejaculation. This is how many women get pregnant even though their partner’s penis was not in their vagina during the ejaculation.

If you think you may be pregnant you should take a home pregnancy test as soon as you have missed your period. Or if you want to know the results earlier, you can visit your doctor or a local family planning clinic.

If you find out later that you are pregnant with an unplanned pregnancy, it can be very scary. Today there are many options available if you have an unplanned pregnancy. You can visit Lifetime Adoption for more information on adoption, and to chat live. In today’s adoption world, you can choose how involved you want to be with the adoptive family. Open adoption offers women the option of finding a forever family for their baby, while maintaining contact through letters and pictures.
